Years of Annual Donations Reflects Continuing Commitment to Community

Companions & Homemakers Inc., Connecticut’s leading home care agency, has donated $10,000 to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, with the funds specifically designated to be used to support families who are staying with their young children while they are patients.

Companions & Homemakers has provided annual support at that level to Connecticut’s Children’s Medical Center since 2012. Last year’s $10,000 donation caught the attention of West Hartford resident Daryl Jackson, whose newborn daughter was saved by the medical staff at Connecticut Children’s.  She was born premature with a knot in her umbilical cord, and was without a heartbeat for 16 minutes, according to officials.  Today, she is healthy and doing well.

Jackson, who owns the Chick-fil-A franchise in West Hartford, has expressed his appreciation to Companions & Homemakers for their generosity, providing lunch for the Companions & Homeowners staff in Farmington on Nov. 7.  Formal presentation of the donation, as part of the Cookies for a Cause program, with Companions & Homemakers COO Bill Geiger and Jackson, representing the Connecticut Children’s Foundation, took place during the lunch.

“Chick-fil-A is an organization that significantly focuses on caring for the communities that we are in,” said Daryl Jackson. “I am honored to now know that there are two additional organizations in this community that share our passion for caring. Those organizations are Companions & Homemakers and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center!”

“We are grateful to have the opportunity to support organizations such as Connecticut Children’s, which is doing phenomenal, life-changing work and providing such comfort to families going through very challenging circumstances,” said Bill Geiger, Chief Operating Officer of Companions & Homemakers.  “Community involvement has always been a priority for our business, and we are proud to contribute in this way.”

Jackson is now Vice Chair of the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Foundation, having become involved with Connecticut Children’s after the heroic work of medical staff to save his daughter’s life.

“I am truly humbled by the $10,000 donation that has been made in both of the last two years to support Cookies for a Cause,” Jackson said.  “Having a sick child is difficult enough on a parent, these funds and others are specifically designated to assist these parents in their time of need. Thank you Companions & Homemakers!”

For nearly three decades, Companions & Homemakers has been Connecticut’s most trusted home care agency, having earned that reputation by providing quality in-home care to thousands of older residents in communities all across the state since 1990.  Since its founding, the mission of Companions & Homemakers, to Preserve Dignity Through Independence at Home, has also been driven by the belief that it’s important to give back.

Through the years, Companions & Homemakers has actively supported organizations whose activities have benefitted their clients and caregivers, as well as the broader Connecticut community.  Each year at the holidays, for example, the entire office staff participates in choosing how a substantial financial donation is divided among a number of worthy organizations. That process will begin shortly for the 2019 holiday season.  Companions & Homemakers has also supported the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which raises money and awareness for Alzheimer’s research, as well as numerous local charitable organizations.

With consistently high customer satisfaction ratings and numerous industry awards, Companions & Homemakers is Connecticut’s leader in homecare and companion services, dedicated to assisting families in preserving dignity for the elderly through independence and the comforts of home.

Companions & Homemakers is a charter member of the Connecticut Chapter of the Home Care Association of America and an accredited member with an A+ rating of the Better Business Bureau.
