Companions & Homemakers Donates $10,000 to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center to Support Families of Young Patients

Annual Donation Reflects Company’s Commitment to Local Community

Companions & Homemakers Inc.,  Connecticut’s leading home care agency, has donated $10,000 to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford in support of families who are staying with their children while they are patients. The funds will be used to purchase furniture, bedding and related items at Connecticut Children’s.

This is the seventh consecutive year that Companions & Homemakers provided support at that level to Connecticut’s Children’s Medical Center. In past years, the donation was made as part of a local radiothon fundraiser.  This year, C&H made the donation in spite of the fact that the annual radiothon did not occur.

This year’s $10,000 donation caught the attention of West Hartford resident Daryl Jackson, whose newborn daughter was saved earlier this year by the medical staff at Connecticut Children’s.  She was born premature with a knot in her umbilical cord, and was without a heartbeat for 16 minutes, according to officials.  Today, she is healthy at six month old.  Jackson, owner of the West Hartford Chick-fil-A restaurant, had made a substantial donation to Connecticut Children’s of his own, and when he learned of the C&H donation, he treated the entire C&H office staff to lunch from Chic-fil-A.

“We are grateful to have the opportunity to support organizations such as Connecticut Children’s which is doing phenomenal, life-changing work, and providing such comfort to families going through very challenging circumstances,” said Bill Geiger, chief operating officer of Companions & Homemakers.  “Community involvement has always been a priority for our business, and we are proud to contribute in this way.”

Companions & Homemakers is Connecticut’s most trusted home care agency, having earned that reputation by providing quality in-home care to thousands of older residents in communities all across the state since 1990.  Since its founding, the mission of Companions & Homemakers, to Preserve Dignity Through Independence at Home, has focused in large part on the belief that it’s important to give back.

Through the years, Companions & Homemakers has actively supported organizations whose activities have benefitted their clients and caregivers, as well as the broader Connecticut community. Each year at the holidays, for example, the entire office staff participates in choosing how a substantial financial donation is divided among a number of worthy organizations. In December, office staff members designated $300 each to one or more of eight different charities that the company supports.  A total of $50,000 was shared with Meals on Wheels, Gaylord Hospital, the Wounded Warrior Project, the American Cancer Society, the Lucky Pup Rescue, Father Nadolny Great News Fund, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the American Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.

Companions & Homemakers has also supported the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which raises money and awareness for Alzheimer’s research, for many years. Staff from C&H walked in six of the regional walks in late 2018, and raised just over $10,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association of CT.

With consistently high customer satisfaction ratings and numerous industry awards, Companions & Homemakers is Connecticut’s leader in homecare and companion services, dedicated to assisting families in preserving dignity through independence and the comforts of home.  Companions & Homemakers is a charter member of the Connecticut Chapter of the Home Care Association of America and an accredited member with an A+ rating of the Better Business Bureau. Companions & Homemakers’ 11 Connecticut offices are located in Avon, Berlin, Clinton, Enfield, Farmington, Glastonbury, Hamden, Litchfield, Middlebury, Norwich and Westport.
